Every year, the North Sea Jazz Festival commissions a talented Dutch jazz musician to write a free composition. This year, the honor goes to jazz violinist and composer Kika Sprangers.
Sprangers' music is known for its refined balance between lyricism, structure and emotion. In this new work she combines her fascination for the human voice with the melodic character of her saxophone playing. The result is a composition in which recognizable riffs, melodic lines and rhythmic variation merge into a story that breathes, flows and surprises.
