Inn a State of Siege - Publiekspremière
How do you keep a hotel running in a besieged city, surrounded by snipers? After IFFR, Inn a State of Siege will have its Rotterdam public premiere at the film house.
A hotel in wartime
Inn a State of Siege tells the true story of Mustafa, Ismet, and Faruk. These three men worked at the Holiday Inn hotel in Sarajevo during the siege of the city between 1992 and 1995. This was the longest siege of a capital city in modern history. The hotel remained open and became a base for foreign journalists reporting on the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The hotel was located on 'Sniper Alley', a boulevard where snipers fired at anything that moved. Chef Mustafa, waiter Faruk, and driver Ismet risked their lives to keep the hotel open.
Survival and resilience
Thirty years later, this documentary explores how surviving under siege shaped them. It also shows the impact on their sons and the generations of Bosnians who inherited the trauma and resilience of the war. This screening is a special premiere with a short introduction and a post-screening discussion with guests.
