IFFR Filmclub in Dokhuis
Filmclub is an initiative of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). Filmclub ensures that (upcoming) film enthusiasts, young filmmakers, and creatives come together at various locations throughout the city to watch films and exchange interests. At the film club in Dokhuis, we watch films by Rotterdam-based makers or those with a Rotterdam twist.
On May 1, International Labour Day, IFFR Filmclub presents two bold and thought-provoking films: You Can't Automate Me and Workers Wings. This screening creates a space to reflect on labour, technology, and the changes taking place in the reality of work. It is also a reminder to us as an audience of how human value, creativity, and resilience are shaped in our rapidly transforming world.
The two films each look at work that usually remains off-screen in their own way. In Workers Wings, filmmaker Ilir Hasanaj spends time with experienced workers in Kosovo whose lives have been shaped by heavy and often unsafe work, and he shows, in an understated manner, a generation that is slowly disappearing. In You Can't Automate Me, we follow dockworkers performing physically demanding and risky work before ships set sail, giving us a close look at what this work means in their daily lives.
Admission is free; with a donation ticket, you ensure that other activities at Dokhuis can also take place for free.
