Some musical encounters feel like coming home. For the Idema/Serierse Quartet, rediscovering the music that once brought them together feels like a journey into the past and a new challenge. On their album Serenade in Blue, recorded at the Roode Bioscoop in Amsterdam, guitarist Gijs Idema and vocalist Anna Serierse return to the Great American Songbook, ten years after their first collaboration.
After two albums of their own work (among them the Edison nominated Motus) they now give standards a fresh approach with new arrangements. Well-known pieces from their early years, beloved encores and newly chosen repertoire are given a contemporary interpretation that combines tradition and innovation.
The balance between vocals and guitar is subtle and equal. Serierse's voice sounds not only as a narrator, but also as an instrument, interwoven with Idema's lines. Serenade in Blue is a tribute to the classics and a new step in their musical journey.
