Het einde en hoe het te overleven
Niña Weijers and Maartje Wortel in conversation with Katrien Steyaert
On the finitude of life
Writers Niña Weijers and Maartje Wortel will be in conversation with literary journalist Katrien Steyaert. They will discuss a subject that touches everyone: death. This interview is taking place on the occasion of the book ‘Het einde en hoe het te overleven’.
For this book, Katrien Steyaert and Gaea Schoeters interviewed 106 well-known authors. Among them were Siri Hustvedt, Hilary Mantel, Ilja Leonard Pfeiffer and Alicja Gescinska. The authors shared their thoughts and experiences on the finitude of life. The conversations were mainly about what makes life worth living: art and beauty.
Finding words for death
Can writers find words for something that often leaves people speechless? Niña Weijers and Maartje Wortel will give their own perspective on this subject. They will share how they think about it, differently than in the interviews in the book. They will be doing this for the first time at Boekhandel Donner.
‘Het einde en hoe het te overleven’ is a collection of comforting, poetic and inspiring thoughts from writers. It is a reminder of human mortality. The book can confront, inspire or comfort. Dirk De Wachter wrote about this: ‘You should not avoid death and grief. There is actually a lot of beauty in it if you talk and read about it. ‘Het einde en hoe het te overleven’ is a moment to reflect.’
