Helden van de Galaxy
On 26 November, we are screening Helden van de Galaxy. A special documentary about five children who are temporarily living on the MS Galaxy, a cruise ship that serves as an asylum seekers' centre.
What is it like to grow up in a place where your future is uncertain? In the youth documentary Helden van de Galaxy, we follow five children who, together with their families, are temporarily living on the MS Galaxy, a former cruise ship that serves as an asylum seekers' centre in Amsterdam. Nour, Abdulatif, Laila and brothers Basel and Mohammad make friends, dream and play, while they wait for clarity about their future. In Helden van de Galaxy, director Mirjam Marks consciously chooses the perspective of the children. It is not their status as refugees that is central, but who they are: children with dreams, talents, imagination and a need for friendship and connection. Precisely by making the everyday visible, space is created to truly get to know one another. Prior to the film, it is possible to have a light meal at Dokhuis. After the screening, we will have a conversation with Mirjam. We will talk about making the documentary, about the children she met on the Galaxy and about the question of what their stories can teach us about looking, listening and living together.
