Green Line

GREEN LINE uses miniature models of Beirut and figurines to reconstruct Fida Bizri’s turbulent childhood during the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990). Using these models, Fida confronts the former militia fighters who were active in her youth in West Beirut in the 1980s—the same fighters who claimed to protect her but who deeply frightened her.

This documentary offers a personal view of the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990) through the eyes of Fida Bizri, who grew up in war-torn Beirut. The title refers to the "Green Line", the dividing line that divided the city in two at the time. Fida relives her childhood through miniature figures and models, with which she reconstructs the war situations. This creative approach serves as a bridge to conversations with former militia fighters, in which Fida confronts her childhood perspective with their experiences. These confrontations have a cathartic effect and enrich the collective history with personal stories.

The film premiered at the 2024 Locarno Film Festival and was praised for its innovative storytelling and emotional depth, and for the way it shows the complexity of war trauma. The importance of dialogue and healing collective wounds is touched upon in a palpable way.
