Gender Upcycling
Join a hands-on Gender Upcycling workshop and discover how clothing can challenge ideas about gender and self-expression.
Clothing is often made and sold from the idea that there are only two genders. But that, of course, does not mean that clothing itself has to have a gender. By adapting, changing, and remaking clothing that we have received or found second-hand, we can decide for ourselves how we want to express ourselves and play with gender. We talk about why this is important, who actually decides what we should wear and how, and how we can adapt our clothing so that we feel good in what we wear. At the same time, we also look at another question: do we always have to buy new clothes to feel good? Why does that somehow not feel quite right? And what does this mean for the world around us? We combine conversation and getting to work ourselves, and explore gender, self-expression, and sustainable fashion by changing existing clothing in a simple way. This event is organised by Queer Events 010 and OASE, with support from Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week.
