Friday Night LIVE

Kick off your weekend at the Kunsthal with Friday Night LIVE! Every third Friday of the month, you can visit the Kunsthal for food & drinks, music & performances, and a generous dose of art. Each edition features a different Rotterdam partner. On Friday, February 20th, Fashion in Flux takes over the Kunsthal!

Fashion in Flux is a platform committed to a new fashion culture: community-driven, inclusive, open, and curious. It focuses on connection and justice, as an alternative to the traditional system that perpetuates inequality. Based in Rotterdam, the platform brings together creators from the Netherlands and abroad, puts important issues on the agenda, and creates space for new initiatives.

Otherworlding

During Friday Night LIVE, Fashion in FLux focuses on the theme of "otherworlding." Coloring outside the lines. Thinking freely and wildly about what the world could look like—that's otherworlding. The term is used in art, science fiction, and activism to imagine worlds where different forms of life, relationships, and values are possible.

Fashion in Flux draws inspiration from the work of Iris van Herpen. In her collections, including Earthrise, van Herpen poetically draws attention to the future of our planet and humanity's place within it. The algae dress from the Sympoiesis collection demonstrates how our relationship with fashion changes when we wear living clothing.

Fashion in Flux celebrates the power of this kind of radical imagination during Kunsthal LIVE. How can you use fashion to imagine worlds we don't yet know, but perhaps even aspire to? Fashion lovers, science fiction fanatics, and archaeologists of the future: everyone is welcome to this evening full of ideas!

Bites and drinks

The Kunsthal Café serves Friday Night Bites. If you come to the Kunsthal between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM with your Friday Night LIVE ticket, you'll receive a free welcome drink (wine, beer, or soft drink).

Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses

Iris van Herpen (born 1984) is considered one of the most avant-garde couturiers of her generation. Through her groundbreaking use of innovative techniques within her field, Van Herpen breaks fashion conventions while simultaneously embracing the traditional craftsmanship of haute couture. The exhibition "Sculpting the Senses" is a journey through Van Herpen's universe and presents a captivating overview in which fashion, contemporary art, design, and science converge. The Kunsthal presents over one hundred iconic creations in which Van Herpen continually challenges the boundaries of haute couture.
