FilmTuin: Play Time
Let yourself be carried away by the playful and satirical PlayTime, in which Monsieur Hulot and an American tourist get lost in modern Paris. A timeless classic full of humor, wonder and architectural absurdity — perfect for a sultry movie night in the garden.
In this edition of De Filmtuin we show PlayTime (1968), the masterpiece by Jacques Tati. In a futuristic and alienating Paris we follow the charming bungler Monsieur Hulot and the curious tourist Barbara, who meet and lose each other during their 'playtime' in the city. Tati's film is a comic observation of modern life, with an eye for absurd detail, architecture and the rhythm of everyday life. Almost without dialogue, but full of visual gags and subtle criticism of consumerism and the anonymity of the city. PlayTime is a sensory experience — perfect to experience outside, with headphones on and the summer air around you. An ode to getting lost, observing and the magic of the unexpected.
