Earl Okin

British musical comedian Earl Okin live at Comedy Club Haug in Rotterdam

The UK's premier musical comedian brings his sophisticated, jazz-based music-comedy ‘kleinkunst’. Completely unique. You have to see him, because there is no one like him.

Earl Okin is known as one of the UK's most prominent jazz singers and songwriters. In the 60s, he signed with the same publisher as the Beatles and recorded his first single at Abbey Road. His songs have been covered by everyone from Cilla Black to Laura Fygi. Before touring with people like Van Morrison, Fairport Convention and Wings, he performed in the 70s in many folk clubs in the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands, where ‘alternative comedy’ first emerged. One of the other artists on that circuit was Billy Connolly.

In the early 80s, Earl was invited by Nigel Planer to perform at the legendary Comic Strip. Since then, he has been a headliner on the British circuit, and later he toured with De Nieuwe Snaar through the Netherlands and Belgium. Earl was a guest on major TV shows in Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, Australia etc. He first met Marcel Haug when he participated in a comedy tour through the Netherlands, promoted by a cigarette manufacturer, even though Earl has never smoked.

Jazz and bossa nova on guitar, sharp original songs and his famous “vocal trumpet”. This is musical comedy, not classic stand-up. At 79, Earl Okin is still unique.
