It is 1968. The year of global revolution. From Paris to Washington, and from Mexico City to Prague: everywhere, young people are rising up to change the world. Thus, the young, awkward student Jan Palach finds himself in a city seething with revolution for his history studies. Dancing to the rousing sounds of Western free jazz—music forbidden under the regime—he rapidly develops from a shy student into a fervent champion of freedom in his country. But when Russian tanks put an end to the Prague Spring and differing political views tear Jan Palach’s family apart, he is faced with the question: how far will I go for my ideals?
