De Grote Zomer Kunst Croquet

Join in with The Great Summer Art Croquet, an imaginative croquet course where art and play collide. Compete against your friends and family and discover croquet like you've never played before!

The installation puts a twist on the classic game of croquet, transforming it into a visually stimulating experience.

Croquet originated in the 19th century as a garden game and grew into a popular outdoor sport for both men and women. In 1900, it was even included in the Olympic Games program. The game also has an iconic role in literature, such as in Alice in Wonderland, where Alice plays croquet with live flamingos as mallets and hedgehogs as balls.

This surreal atmosphere is a key source of inspiration for Kwannie Tang & Man-Yee Mok of Studio MAKY, known for their large-scale, interactive installations that emphasize form, color, and imagination. Their projects appear in museums, festivals, and public spaces, inviting people of all ages to observe, explore, and participate. The duo strives to connect play and imagination with art and design in an accessible way.

Participation in the Great Summer Art Croquet is free with a valid Kunsthal ticket and is open to everyone aged six and up. Reservations are not required.

Please note: the route is located on the steps of the Auditorium and is therefore less accessible for visitors with limited mobility.
