Dag Nederland

Existing work from different periods comes together with new photography that Magroun created especially for the exhibition. Based on themes such as intimacy, family, identity and representation, he explores what it means to be Dutch, who determines who is seen as Dutch and who is allowed to identify with that. The title ‘Dag Nederland’ can mean both a greeting and a farewell. This double meaning aligns with the questions Magroun asks about Dutch citizenship and the Dutch self-image. Who is given the space to represent the Netherlands? And who can and may take a place in that image? A different image of the Netherlands For the new work in Dag Nederland, Magroun travelled through the country. He uses recognizable elements from the Dutch landscape and the national visual language as a backdrop for his portraits. Magroun works from encounter and collaboration. His portraits move between pride, vulnerability and everyday life and invite you to look beyond stereotypes.
