Christiania: A Utopian Experiment
Discover Christiania, one of the world's most famous free spaces in Copenhagen, through the eyes of filmmaker Karl Friis Forchhammer, who was born there. This documentary combines rare archival footage with humorous animation and offers a strong substantive investigation into the history of Christiania. From the squatting of the abandoned barracks in the 1970s to the present day, the film shows how the social experiment of self-management, based on anarchist principles, came into being.
Challenges and Survival
The utopian project also faced challenges, including incidents of violence and drug trafficking. Nevertheless, Christiania still exists after fifty years. The documentary shows that living together is possible in various ways and offers a personal portrait of this unique community.
