Cautious Clay

Cautious Clay makes emotional music full of soul, indie and lo-fi pop. In his latest project 'The Hours: Morning' he links music to moments of the day. Live he builds his music layer by layer.

Cautious Clay is the stage name of Josh Karpeh, a young singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Brooklyn, New York. His music is a unique mix of lo-fi electronic pop, hip-hop, r&b, indie and soul. He broke through in 2017 with his hit Cold War, which was even sampled by Taylor Swift. After the jazzy, autobiographical KARPEH, he now presents his latest project: The Hours: Morning — a conceptual work that feels like a mixtape, built around the rhythm of the day.

For this project, Karpeh pushed personal boundaries. Instead of completely retreating into the studio, he opted for a life with more freedom and space for creativity outside the box. The result was over sixty new songs, eight of which made it onto The Hours: Morning. Each song is linked to a specific hour of the day and reflects Karpeh’s emotional state at that moment.

Live, Cautious Clay plays multiple instruments, from guitar to saxophone to flute, and brings his songs to life layer by layer on stage. His shows are intimate, compelling and you are completely immersed in his world.
