Brandee Younger & Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw
Brandee Younger shows that the harp belongs in modern jazz. In a unique collaboration with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, tradition and innovation meet, with the harp in the leading role.
American harpist Brandee Younger has proven that the harp belongs in modern jazz. She broke through as a 'Rising Star' in Downbeat Magazine and has since worked with Robert Glasper, Pharoah Sanders, Lauryn Hill, John Legend and Makaya McCraven, among others. In 2022, she became the first woman of color to be nominated for a Grammy in the category 'Best Instrumental Composition'. With her seventh album Brand New Life, a tribute to harp pioneer Dorothy Ashby, she won an NAACP Image Award in the category 'Outstanding Jazz Album' in 2024.
For a one-off collaboration, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw invites her to further expand the boundaries of big band jazz. This top formation, consisting of leading Dutch musicians, previously worked with greats such as Chick Corea and Joshua Redman. Their mission is to make a century of Dutch jazz accessible to new generations, but they also look ahead and work together with contemporary (jazz) musicians from all over the world. In this way, they continue to combine tradition and innovation with high-profile projects and international collaborations.
