Black Joy Theater Oostpool / Priscilla Vaudelle

Somewhere in the city there is a wig factory specializing in black hair. Three women keep the factory running with stories, music and unbreakable strength.

The women get a new colleague: Joy. She doesn't live up to her name. She is exhausted. Fleeing from a world full of systems that pull her down. Yet here, between the hair and the heads, melodies resound that touch her. Here they sing, dance and laugh, even when everything is against them.

Can Joy surrender to the rhythms of the factory? Or will she remain trapped in her anger and doubts? BLACK JOY is a kaleidoscope of music, storytelling and dance, in which four black Dutch women transform their struggle into an explosion of energy. Theater Oostpool, together with Dawn Collective, presents an infectious show that searches for connection, even when you are driven apart. With a soundtrack by

Motown, soul, gospel and R&B. A performance that touches, that connects and that you should not miss.

“Black Joy, my happiness is my protest.” – Priscilla Vaudelle
