BioBlitz010 2025 bij Zoöp Nieuwe Instituut
What lives and lives in the Museumpark? Which plants and animals do we usually overlook? Zoöp Nieuwe Instituut will also participate in the 'species hunt' BioBlitz010 in 2025.
What lives and lives in the Museumpark? Which plants and animals do we usually overlook? Zoöp Nieuwe Instituut will also participate in the 'species hunt' BioBlitz010 in 2025, which is organised by colleagues from Het Natuurhistorisch, Bureau Stadsnatuur and Nationaal Park Rotterdam. In this year's edition, there is extra attention for the hidden urban nature under water. We dive into the ponds. And you can help us count (with dry feet)!
A BioBlitz is a 'species hunt', an attempt to count as many plants and animals as possible in a specific period at a specific location. For example, the aim is to once again observe more than 1000 different species within 24 hours during the Rotterdam BioBlitz010 in the Museumpark this spring. This year, the emphasis is on amphibians, fish and so-called macrofauna: the invertebrate beetles, snails, flatworms and larvae that mainly live in the water. So this time we'll take a dip in the ponds.
The initiators of this year's BioBlitz010 are not alone in this: the gardeners of the Nieuwe Tuin are fully involved. Frank Bruggeman and Peter Zwaal put on their waders and scoop transparent containers full of pond life. Under their inspiring guidance, you can experience which salamanders, fish and underwater insects live under the surface of our ponds.
