DDD XXIV Day 2 - Celestial Season + Stygian Crown + Officium Triste + The Answer Lies In The Black Void + Mortajas

24th edition of Dutch Doom Days.

Celestial Season

Celestial Season can be considered as one of the first Dutch bands to embrace the doom/death style. After a hiatus they returned to the scene and even performed at Dutch Doom Days (albeit in an adjusted line-up). Since 2020 you could say the current line-up consists of members who were in the band in the formative years. And they’ve released 4 more albums since then. Their appearance at this year's Dutch Doom Days marks their return to the stage in this constellation.

Stygian Crown

Stygian Crown formed in 2018 with a mission to celebrate epic doom in the vein of Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus and Black Sabbath. Their music strikes a unique balance of doom and death metal — a sound some have called "Candlethrower" in reference to Candlemass and Bolt Thrower. Featuring drummer Rhett of Morgion fame the band has released two albums via Cruz Del Sur Records.

Officium Triste

Active since 1994 Officium Triste is the band that ignited Dutch Doom Days back in 2002. They’ve done 28 shows under the banner of Baroeg, so a 29th at the brand new venue has to be done as well. And let’s be clear; Officium Triste has only become better and better over the years.

The Answer Lies In The Black Void

The Answer Lies In The Black Void is the alchemical collaboration between vocalist Martina Horváth (Thy Catafalque) and composer/multi-instrumentalist Jason Köhnen (Celestial Season, Bong-Ra). Their 2023 performance at Dutch Doom Days was outstanding. And their most recent album “Transcendental” is so good we had to get them back.

Mortajas

Mortajas from Chile returns to Dutch Doom Days as well. People still talk about their performance in 2023. They deliver slow, heavy, and atmospheric doom metal performed in Spanish, rooted in classic doom traditions while infused with a distinctly South American identity.
