Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen

Dutch and European masterpieces in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen provide an overview from the early Middle Ages to the 21st century.

Monumental building

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. In 1849, the lawyer Boijmans left his art collection to the city of Rotterdam. With the acquisition of the Van Beuningen collection in 1958, the name of the museum was expanded. The current museum building was opened in 1935, a monumental building that was specially built around the collection by city architect Van der Steur. The stately appearance of red brick includes intimate cabinets and spacious salons where art can be viewed in daylight. The museum has a collection of paintings, sculptures and utensils and a collection of drawings and prints. Dutch and European masterpieces provide an overview here from the early Middle Ages to the 21st century. From Bosch, Rembrandt and Van Gogh to DalĂ and Dutch Design.
