Fenix
Fenix is the new art museum about migration in Rotterdam. Housed in a historic port warehouse with a spectacular modern addition: the Tornado. Climb the stairs and enjoy breathtaking views over the city.
The Story of Migration at Fenix
Fenix tells the story of migration from every corner of the world. It is an art museum that takes you through the lived experiences of migrants. The stories speak of love and separation, coming home and feeling at home, navigating identity, and searching for happiness, all at the place of departure and arrival.
Through art, stories, and flavors, Fenix sparks curiosity about the world around you and how migration has shaped it. The story of Fenix is the story of Rotterdam and the story of the world. Because migration moves us, always and everywhere.
Discover the theme through the eyes of international artists such as Do Ho Suh, Shilpa Gupta, Bill Viola, and Omar Victor Diop. Experience it through various media, from a monumental suitcase maze telling personal stories to an expansive documentary photo exhibition, The Family of Migrants.
Fenix is located in a historic harbor shed from 1923, featuring a modern addition: the Tornado by MAD Architects. Climbing these stairs is an experience in itself, leading to a spectacular viewing platform high above the roof.
Plein: A Unique Space of Art and Community
Inside Fenix, you will find Plein, a covered city square spanning two thousand square meters, a lively space that moves with the city. Plein has it's own programme, offering events, exhibitions and activities. It’s the perfect backdrop for events, a place to roller skate, or even do homework. Every day is different.
