The Binnenrotte is the largest square in Rotterdam. It is also the place where Rotterdam originated. Originally, the Binnenrotte was part of the river Rotte.

The Binnenrotte is the largest square in Rotterdam. It is also the place where Rotterdam originated. Originally, the Binnenrotte was part of the river Rotte. In 1871, the Rotte was filled in here for the construction of a railway viaduct. The viaduct was later demolished for the construction of the Willemsspoortunnel. Today, Binnenrotteplein is a lively city square hosting one of the largest markets in the Netherlands on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

A number of striking buildings stand on the Binnenrotte, such as the Markthal, the Central Library, the Cube Houses, and the Grote- or Sint-Laurenskerk. Rotterdam Blaak Station is located on and beneath the square. The Binnenrotte is therefore easily accessible by train, metro, tram, and bus. There is also free bicycle parking and a public toilet. There is also a large parking garage beneath the adjacent Markthal.
