Son et Lumière projected on Erasmus University College
The façade of Erasmus University College will be transformed into a life-size canvas for the light and sound show Son et Lumière. From 17 to 25 October, it will pay tribute to the remarkable development that MAHO (Virgin of Holland Area) has undergone in recent years. Once a quiet neighbourhood between Pannekoekstraat, Botersloot, Nieuwemarkt and Goudsesingel. Now a lively destination full of unique boutiques, creative entrepreneurs and atmospheric restaurants.
The show is a production of LiGHT-UP Collective and is co-sponsored by the Municipality of Rotterdam. It takes visitors on a visual journey through the neighbourhood's history. From the first bricks to the vibrant hotspot it is today.
Nine nights, visitors will get free access to the show on Nieuwemarkt. Sound will accompany the show from 19:00 to 21:00, after which the light show will continue without audio until 23:00 for those who want to experience the images in silence.
The official premiere will take place on Friday 17 October from 18:45. This special opening moment is meant to kick off the event festively together with business owners, residents and visitors.
"We want to show Rotterdammers and visitors how special the history of this neighbourhood is," says Retail & Hospitality programme maker Cornelis Los. "Through light, sound and storytelling, we make the story of MAHO tangible and experienceable for young and old. This is the way to show pride in what we have built together and to celebrate our community."
Also projection of own artwork
Residents and visitors of all ages can actively contribute to the story that will soon come to life on the façade. Anyone who likes to colour or draw can submit a work of art until 10 October at children's bookshop De Kleine Kapitein on Botersloot. The most beautiful creations will appear life-sized on the building during the show.
