Euromast closes between 5 January and early April for skyhigh renovation
De Euromast will close its doors after the Christmas holidays for a period of about three months. The Rotterdam icon can still be visited until Sunday 4 January. From Monday 5 January until early April 2026, the Euromast will be completely closed to the public. During this period, the tower will undergo the final phase of a multi-year renovation: major maintenance to the exterior of the crow's nest and a renovation of the restaurant. This completes the Euromast's transformation: renewed inside and out and ready for the future.
Since its takeover by Magnicity, the Euromast has undergone a step-by-step metamorphosis. From the Euroscope and Rise of Rotterdam to the renovated suites and boardroom; the iconic building has already seen many innovations. Now comes the finishing touch: a thorough refurbishment of the exterior and a redesign of the restaurant.
Safety and craftsmanship at 100 metres
The exterior work is technically complex and requires special facilities. The entire underside of the crow's nest is blasted, inspected and repaired where necessary. The steel structure will then be repainted. The Euroscope's 'mast' will also receive new paintwork, both inside and outside.
To carry out this work safely, a special suspension platform will be built under the crow's nest, which will be attached to the inside of the concrete pile. In addition, the Euroscope itself acts as a lift installation for a temporary working platform on top of the structure. Because of the considerable weight of these platforms, the Euromast must remain completely closed to the public during the work.
"This work is essential for the preservation of our iconic monument," explains Leonie Staat, general manager of the Euromast. "The Euromast was designed by Huig Maaskant as a symbol of progress and innovation. Through this thorough renovation, we are ensuring that the building not only remains safe, but also retains its iconic appearance for future generations."
Restaurant gets modern Rotterdam identity
At the same time, the restaurant will be renovated. The Euromast deliberately chooses a concept that does justice to its monumental status and the style of architect Maaskant, but with a fresh, contemporary look.
"With the revamped restaurant, we are creating a place that breathes Rotterdam: direct, contemporary and welcoming," says Leonie. "Here, Rotterdam residents, tourists and business guests experience the city at its best: with good food, personal attention and a spectacular view of the skyline." Inspired by Maaskant's ideas and the colourful character of Rotterdam, the Euromast renews with respect for the past and with its sights set on the future.
Investment in iconic heritage
"The Euromast is more than a monument, it is a symbol of Rotterdam and an important piece of Dutch heritage," says Leonie. "With this renovation, we are investing in the future of this iconic building. We want to ensure that the Euromast can continue to shine in the coming decades as Rotterdam's proud observation tower, where visitors from all over the world can enjoy the special experience this monument offers."
