The Laurencantorij closes the season with Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner. The two nineteenth-century composers were rivals in Viennese musical life. Brahms would be too classical, while Bruckner sounded too 'Wagnerian'. It was said that the only thing the composers shared was their favorite dish: the Austrian dumpling. But this program, a tribute to romanticism, shows that that statement is incorrect. Together, these songs are the ultimate hymn to nature, love and night. Brahms and Bruckner are the perfect duo for this summer concert evening.

Brahms / Schicksalslied, Op. 54

Brahms / Four Songs, Op. 17

Brahms / Three Songs, Op. 42
