Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet

Saxophonist Yuri Honing is one of the Netherlands' most innovative and important jazz musicians, who has made his mark both nationally and internationally with his fantastic playing. He has toured in more than 90 countries and has almost 50 albums to his name. He received his first Edison Award for his album Seven (2001), with Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motian. In 2012, Honing received the Boy Edgar Prize, in recognition of his more than twenty albums since his debut in 1992. During his thirty-year career, Honing has collaborated with artists such as Pat Metheny, Paul Bley, Craig Taborn, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Charlie Haden, Paul Motian and many others.

Heaven on My Mind is the fifth album by Yuris acoustic quartet and was released in September 2023 by Challenge Records. After the thematic albums True (2012, inspired by Berlin and David Bowie), Desire (2015, an instrumental opera about desire), Goldbrun (2017, an ode to Europe and Honing's interest in European art music) and Blauwbaard (2020), this new album marks the quartet's tenth anniversary. This years of playing together has now resulted in an almost telepathic way in which the band members communicate with each other. But Honing's love for Charles Lloyd, Pharoah Sanders and the more free acoustic jazz of the sixties also comes to the fore, together with the influence of the hippie movement of that time. A concert by this quartet is always a unique experience. Each performance reaches a much wider audience than usual in the jazz scene and touches the listeners deeply.
