You will find us in the best places is a comprehensive retrospective of the South African artist Moshekwa Langa. Featuring nearly 120 works spanning the past three decades, the exhibition occupies the entire building of Kunstinstituut Melly and constitutes the largest overview of Langa's work presented in the Netherlands to date. Langa's multifaceted practice explores themes such as memory, landscape, borders, time, and the politics of land and cartography. His interest in maps arose, in part, from the discovery that his native village of Bakenberg did not appear on official South African maps. Over the years, these questions have recurred in various forms: from lines and threads to installations, landscapes, and personal memories. Langa works with everyday and unconventional materials such as coffee, nail polish, lipstick, newspapers, yarn, coal, tape, and garbage bags. Through humor and playfulness, layered works emerge that defy categorization. The exhibition does not follow a linear chronology. Instead, ideas, themes, and questions return again and again, with time unfolding as something elastic and constantly in motion.
