Winter sky Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest
Who can look up at the stars on a winter night without feeling overwhelmed? Saariaho manages to evoke that feeling in a chillingly beautiful way with her Ciel d'hiver. The other two composers also unfold an entire universe here from one fragile solo – in Shostakovich's concerto performed by Truls Mørk. He last played the work with us nine years ago: 'crushing, intense, breathtaking', according to NRC.
