When a lion comes to the doctor - heart & vessels in humans & animals

In the exhibition 'A lion comes to the doctor', which was developed in collaboration with the Erasmus MC, you see that not only you, but every vertebrate animal has a heart and vessels. The real hearts of, for example, a dogfish, turtle and penguin that we exhibit show the differences and similarities.

Although humans do not exactly resemble a blue whale or a guinea pig, the building plan of each heart is virtually the same. The heart is actually quite cleverly constructed.

However, things sometimes go wrong with the human heart. Discover in the exhibition what a heart looks like, feel how a sick heart must work and see what can be done about it.

Doctors and researchers at the Erasmus MC Heart & Vascular Institute do their best to keep the human heart healthy or to repair it. In 1984, the first heart transplant in the Netherlands took place at Erasmus MC. Time has not stood still since then.

Be amazed at what has happened since that first transplant in the field of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the heart and vessels and what was and is needed in an operating room.
