Tonbruket

Bassist Dan Berglund was part of the successful Esbjörn Svensson Trio from the 1990s. A Swedish jazz group that experimented in an accessible and energetic way and was therefore equally welcome on the jazz and rock stages. This was brutally disrupted in 2008 by the death of Svensson in a diving accident. Berglund picked up the pieces and, together with guitarist Johan Lindström, founded the group Tonbruket, in which jazz, rock and electronics are ingeniously merged. Tonbruket released several albums on the ACT Music + Vision label.

The group's first album was released in 2010. Tonbruket has since released six studio albums, of which Light Wood, Dark Strings is the most recent. The music is a unique mix of jazz, rock, Americana, kraut, psych, folk and blues. Tonbruket's songs have become increasingly acoustic over the years. Lindström undisputedly steals the show on guitar, but especially on lap and pedal steel, which he makes sing and mourn hauntingly. The group sometimes sounds sad and fragile, but they also rock and pound with chunky themes.
