Tom Skinner returns to Rotterdam with 'Kaleidoscopic Visions': meditative, groundbreaking jazz from the drummer of The Smile and Sons of Kemet.
In 2024, Tom Skinner was artist in residence at the Motel Mozaïque discovery festival. Following his acclaimed debut solo album, Voices of Bishara (2022), he now returns to Rotterdam—for the first time at LantarenVenster—for the release of his new album , Kaleidoscopic Visions (2025, International Anthem/Brownswood Recordings).
Skinner played for years in top bands such as Sons of Kemet (with Shabaka Hutchings) and The Smile, the band around Radiohead singer Thom Yorke and guitarist Jonny Greenwood.
On Kaleidoscopic Visions , he reflects, midway through his life, on what has been and looks forward to new possibilities. By composing on guitar—his second instrument—he discovered a unique, meditative sound: searching, yet always effective and reduced to the essence. As a drummer, he eschews predictable rhythms, resulting in a wealth of exciting music.
