The Room Next Door - Film&Ontbijt
Almodóvar’s latest film is a feast for the eyes. Stunning performances from Swinton and Moore give the film its beating heart, making it less about death and more about the magic of life.
Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore star in the visually stunning and intimate The Room Next Door, Pedro Almodóvar's first English-language feature film, but in his typically distinctive style.
Ingrid (Julianne Moore) is a bestselling author famous for her book about her fear of death. When she learns that Martha (Tilda Swinton) – a former war correspondent – is ill, she visits her, rekindling a past friendship. Martha is now fighting a new war, and the women’s renewed bond means that Ingrid is involved in her treatments, while stories are told, secrets are revealed, and regret, redemption and mortality are discussed over tea.
Almodóvar’s latest film is a feast for the eyes, thanks to the superb cinematography of Eduard Grau, who previously enjoyed success with A Single Man. Stunning performances from Swinton and Moore give the film its beating heart, making it less about death and more about the magic of life. Pedro Almodóvar’s previous works include Hable con ella, Dolor y gloria, Volver and La mala educación.
