During a party in honor of his graduation, the young and shy Benjamin is seduced by the mysterious Mrs. Robinson, the wife of one of his father's best friends. The secret escapade becomes complicated when Benjamin subsequently falls in love with her daughter Elaine. The result: a tragicomic cat-and-mouse game full of confusion, desire and rebellion against the backdrop of the American sixties.
