The Genius of the Place - The life and work of Geoffrey Bawa

Bawa is one of the forefathers of Tropical Modernism. After the Second World War, former colonies, including Sri Lanka, were looking for their own modern national identity. In contrast to the English rulers, who built introverted and closed bungalows on the island, Bawa designed buildings that are in harmony with nature, culture and climate by embracing local building techniques and modernist design principles. Bawa was always looking for 'The genius of the Place'. This documentary takes you on a journey through the oeuvre of one of the greatest Sinhalese architects.
