The Firemen's Ball
The invasion of Soviet troops in 1968 brought an end to the Prague Spring, the relatively liberal period in the history of communist Czechoslovakia. Milos Forman's satirical comedy The Firemen's Ball, made a year earlier, was immediately banned 'permanently and forever' by the new authorities; the film was said to have presented a negative image of Czech society.
