The Clowns Convention Wunderbaum

The actors from Wunderbaum and Theaterhaus Jena put on the clown suit for this performance and look for the clown within themselves. To the music of beatboxer and musician Joost Maaskant (aka MAASK), they present never-before-seen clown acts and investigate whether they are still relevant. With the rise of the horror clown and the disappearance of the circus, the reputation of the clown is in danger. Are they still taken seriously? Is society still waiting for that confrontational mirror?

The press about the performance

'"The fantastic collective Wunderbaum is back from lockdown... It is an enormous joy to see the passionate actors back on stage at this congress of freaks." Frankfurter Allgemeine

" The craft of circus clown may be in danger of extinction, but that of actor appears to be alive and well. What a (research) job, what clever insight from Wunderbaum. And what bravado, what a job: that of an actor!" The Theaterkrant

"A conference of international clowns that gradually evolves into a self-help group: what a wonderful idea from Wunderbaum, a Dutch-Flemish-German-Italian collective that has guaranteed generous and socially critical theater for two decades." The standard

"Wunderbaum's performance is unpredictable and funny, especially when sadness prevails." The morning

"Your eyes are treated to beautiful, colorful stage images, your laughing muscles get a workout - even though the goal of the acrobatic tours is to die, there is always resurrection - and the final image is beautiful." Knack.be
