Spoorloos 1988

Exciting film adaptation of Tim Krabbé's novel The Golden Egg , in which a young woman disappears at a gas station during a holiday to the south of France. Her husband continues to search obsessively for her for years. George Sluizer's Dutch classic has now been restored. Stanley Kubrick called it “the most terrifying movie I have ever seen” – no small compliment from the creator of The Shining . This psychological thriller by George Sluizer is certainly disturbing, oppressive and mysterious. Spoorloos is a nail-biting report, full of underlying tension, about a sudden disappearance and its consequences for those left behind. On holiday in the south of France, Rex (Gene Bervoets) briefly loses sight of his girlfriend Saskia (Johanna ter Steege) when they stop at a petrol station. She has disappeared without a trace, and he continues to search for her for years. A bizarre denouement follows: the kidnapper approaches Rex; If he wants to know where Saskia is, he will have to suffer the same horrifying fate as his girlfriend... George Sluizer's psychothriller was an instant classic when it was released in 1988. The film adaptation of Tim Krabbé's novel Het Gouden Ei, starring Johanna ter Steege, among others, won a Golden Calf for best film and received an American remake ( The Vanishing , 1993). Krabbé's novel was published exactly forty years ago, a reason for celebration. The 2K restoration is a collaboration between Eye, StoneRaft Films and Haghefilm.
