Sound of Argentina

Gustavo and Santiago, both multi-instrumentalists, will treat you to all facets of tango, folklore and jazz.

Gustavo and Santiago played together many years ago in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Over the years, their own musical journeys have taken them not only to the far reaches of tango, but also to folklore and jazz.

As they are both multi-instrumentalists, they have a broad musical knowledge regardless of the instrument and bring a unique sound.

Gustavo recorded the recently released Latin Grammy nominated album "Saga" (2025) with Martin Sued and Yamandu Costa, featuring Aaron Parks, and has performed with Leopoldo Federico, Amelita Baltar, Omar Mollo and toured several times with the Metropole Orchestra.

He has performed on stages ranging from the prestigious Teatro Colón in Argentina, to the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the North Sea Jazz Festival, and at various venues in Europe and beyond.

Santiago has recorded several exciting albums, including "Fuellisto" (2014), the ECM album "Absinthe" (2019), with which he performed on numerous stages in Asia and Europe, and "Evocación de Carnaval" (2021), on which he plays solo bandoneon. He has also released two albums of his own.

His most recent album, “Evocación de Carnaval,” was created and recorded during the COVID-19 quarantine period, and features an intimate Santiago Arias with only bandoneon, and in some cases vocals, leaving room for free improvisation on anonymous folkloric melodies, clearly influenced by different musical genres.

Both have experimented with electronics and pedals, but also hold firmly to their roots in tango, folklore and jazz, which allows for a unique dialogue of improvisation.
