Sonic Self-Portraits: Place, Memory, and Community

Discover how sound shapes your environment, community, and personal stories. Through listening exercises and sound recordings, you create a unique auditory self-portrait. No technical knowledge required, only curiosity. Josué Amador guides you in Rotterdam.

Sound and memories

Discover how sound shapes your environment and listen to the stories of different places and realities. Learn how to express these memories through sound. This workshop in Rotterdam invites you to explore the influence of sound and listening on your life. You will investigate how the spaces you move in, the communities you belong to, and the stories you carry manifest themselves in sound.

Auditory self-portrait

Through guided listening exercises and assignments, you will make sound recordings. You will follow the auditory connections between the places where you come from, the city where you live, and the communities that shape you. At the end of this workshop, you will create a unique auditory self-portrait. This short audio fragment captures the textures, tensions, and resonances of personal stories. No technical experience is necessary, only curiosity and the willingness to listen. Josué Amador, sound artist and teacher, will guide you. His work focuses on the socio-cultural and political aspects of sound.
