Samuel and the Light
In the remote Brazilian village of Ponta Negra live young Samuel and his family. They live in a hidden paradise of white beaches and azure sea that barely survives on the ever-dwindling yield of fishing. The community is changed forever when electricity cables finally reach the village. Over a period of six years, Samuel and the Light follows the radical transformation of a simple fishing village into a magnet for tourists. The poetic documentary is full of picturesque images filmed by candlelight or the explosions of fireworks. Without passing judgment, filmmaker Vinícius Girnys shows the reality of globalization.

But everything looks different when the shadows drown out the light.
