Rotterdamse Dakendagen - Torenmuziek Dakconcert 2024 #1

City carillonneur Richard de Waardt invites top carillonneurs and other top musicians to create a beautiful, fun and unforgettable musical evening. The roof of the Heuvel Building is an ideal listening place to listen to the 17th century carillon of the Laurenstoren. Carillonneurs from the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and the United States immerse you in the wonderful world of bronze bell art. The performance of the carillonneurs alternates with beautiful and intimate live music on the listening area of the roof terrace by professional musicians . Upon arrival, everyone is offered a free snack and drink by hostess Irene Smit and the bar is also open during the concert. In short, a wonderfully musical summer evening in a unique and exclusive spot in the heart of Rotterdam.

Carillon: Joseph Min (USA)

As a carillonneur, Joseph Min regularly plays the largest carillon in the world: the Riverside Church in New York City, whose largest bell weighs approximately 18,000 kg. That is four times as heavy as the bourdon from the Laurenskerk. Joseph recently graduated from the Royal Carillon School “Jef Denyn” in Mechelen and will participate this summer in the prestigious Queen Fabiola Competition in Mechelen – the most important carillon competition in the world.

Nyckelharpa & lute: Didier François & Philippe Malfeyt

Be surprised by this unusual duo with their enchanting combination of instruments. The wealth of bowed, plucked and sympathetic strings speaks for itself: 100% honeycomb, soft sweets for the soul. Under the Shakespearean motto “There are more things in heaven and Earth, Than are dreams of in your philosophy”, Didier François, world-famous nyckel harpist, and the lutenist Philippe Malfeyt, one of the pioneers of this instrument in Belgium, enter into a fascinating dialogue with history. .
