Both instruments have traditionally been very popular in classical Indian music, with the rich and sophisticated melodies of the sitar accompanied by the rhythms of the tabla, which are both complex and compelling. Roopa Panesar is the leading sitarist in Europe. She belongs to a very select group of female musicians who have built a career worldwide as full-time touring sitarists. Roopa Panesar remains faithful to the traditional Indian classical repertoire supplemented with her distinctive signature. She is a student of the renowned and pioneering music teacher Ustad Dharambir Singh (UK). He is a student of the late Indian sitarmaestro Ustad Vilayat Khan. Roopa released her debut album Khoj ('discovery') in 2011, followed by Subha, voted Songlines "Top of the world album". Her most recent album ATMA (the soul) was followed by a tour in India with a performance at the prestigious Indian music festival Doverlane.

Shahbaz Hussain is an acclaimed tabla player known for his virtuosity, versatility and profound musicality. With his exceptional technique and innovative approach to the tabla, Hussain inspires and captivates the audience. Born into a family of traditional musicians in UK, Hussain started his musical journey at a young age. He learned to play tabla from his father and later from the legendary maestros Ustad Fayaz Khan and Ustad Alla Rakha.
