Playground: Cyanotype Workshop
Give old clothing a new life with the deep blue cyanotype printing technique. During this workshop, fashion, nature and the landscapes of Noord-Iran come together.
The workshop is given by Azerbaijani artist Gunay Rzazadeh and Iranian artist and OASE team member Yas Gholami. Get to work with leaves, flowers and other natural materials and create your own cyanotype designs on textile and paper. In between, Gunay and Yas will share stories and knowledge about the nature they grew up with, including the Hyrcanische bossen in Iran. This special landscape is rich in biodiversity, but is increasingly under pressure due to deforestation and climate change. For Gunay and Yas, sharing their knowledge and memories through art is also a way to create awareness and a form of resistance. A way to celebrate, remember and protect landscapes that are changing before their eyes. We will also drink traditional tea from the northern regions of Iran, and make space for conversation and connection. Cyanotype is an old photographic printing technique with which you can create amazing blue-and-white images using UV light. By placing leaves, flowers or other natural materials on light-sensitive material, special prints are created in which their shapes, structures and details become visible.
