Pelita dialoogtafel - 75 jaar Molukkers in Nederland
Stichting Pelita is organizing a special event at Plein: the Pelita Dialogue Table. During a three-course dinner, you will engage in conversation about how the past in the Dutch East Indies continues to influence the present.
Commemoration of 75 years of Moluccans in the Netherlands
On March 21, it was 75 years since the first ship carrying Moluccan KNIL soldiers, the *Kota Inten*, arrived in Rotterdam. More ships followed, including in Amsterdam, up to and including June 21, 1951. One of these vessels, the *Roma*, arrived at the Rotterdam Lloydkade on April 8, 1951. The Pelita Foundation is organizing a dialogue table to commemorate this.
The Pelita Dialogue Table
The Lloydkade is located close to Fenix, the venue where the Pelita Dialogue Table takes place. You reflect on the arrival of the soldiers and the theme of farewell. A previous participant described it as: 'Engaging in conversation with a stranger and sharing very personal matters with that person was an unexpectedly positive experience.'
Three-course meal and performances
During the dialogue, you will enjoy a three-course meal provided by ShiFra's dapor. The ingredients and spices tell a story. Between courses, you will listen to performances featuring music and spoken word. For example, there is a tifa performance by Tiga Batang Rumah.
Who is this event for?
The Pelita Dialogue Table is intended for people with a background in the former Dutch East Indies or Indonesia. We also welcome anyone who wants to learn more about the influence of the shared colonial past on the present.
