Patrick and the Whale

Patrick Dykstra has dedicated his life to the study of whales. The unique bond between Patrick and these giants, whose lives remain largely a mystery to humans, brings us closer to the sperm whale than we have ever been. An encounter with the female sperm whale Dolores turns Patrick's world upside down. Dolores appears to be exceptionally social and curious. She scans Patrick with her sonar and even copies movements he makes.

In the award-winning Patrick and the Whale, Patrick travels to Dominica to find Dolores. He is convinced that she is the sperm whale who can give us more insight into the secrets of her world. Using stunning underwater footage, Patrick explores the fascinating nature of the sperm whale and tries to learn more about its intelligence and complexity. Gradually he learns more and more about Dolores and her kind, but perhaps even more about himself.

Patrick and the Whale follows Patrick's journey and delves into the psychology of a man who sacrificed everything to understand our planet's largest ocean inhabitants. None other than Academy Award winner James Reed (My Octopus Teacher) and Academy Award nominee Alexander Nanau (Collective) have joined the film as executive producers.
