Panel Talk – Photography Museum Initiative – Cabo Verde

Cabo Verde is gaining increasing international recognition, which offers new opportunities for tourism, investment and cultural exchange. Tourism is one of the most important pillars of the economy of Cabo Verde.

But as the country looks to the future, an important question also arises: how can tourism grow while simultaneously preserving and strengthening the Cape Verdean cultural identity? Can cultural institutions dedicated to preserving and sharing Cape Verdean stories play a central role in this future? Could a Photography Museum of Cabo Verde become an example of how culture, tourism, and heritage can reinforce each other and develop together? As part of the exhibition Cabo Verde: The Future by photographer Gilson Do Rosário Silva, the first panel discussion surrounding the Photography Museum Initiative – Cabo Verde will take place on 17 October. Gilson will introduce his vision for the establishment of the first photography museum of Cabo Verde. Together with artists, photographers, architects, cultural professionals, and members of the Cape Verdean community in Rotterdam, the significance and possibilities of such an institution will be discussed.
