Orchestra Baobab

West Africa's most iconic band returns to Rotterdam with a new album! Orchestra Baobab is a brilliant collection of musical personalities, playing a mix of Afro-Latin styles, pop music and griot music.

West Africa's most iconic band is coming back to Rotterdam! On November 10th, Orchestra Baobab will play the music from their new album Made In Sénégal in Theater Rotterdam. Baobab is adored both at home in Senegal and all over the world and holds a special place in the history of African music. Their story begins in the 1960s in the heart of the medina of Dakar and extends across the globe and into the 21st century, with a brilliant collection of musical personalities and a unique mix of Afro-Latin styles, international pop music, West African griot music, and a West African nightclub atmosphere of sweet and melodious rhythms. At the end of 2020, the renowned world music label World Circuit released a vinyl reissue of Specialist In All Styles to celebrate their 50th anniversary, a timeless collection of classic and danceable songs that mix Afro-Cuban rhythms with traditional African music.

This year, the group returns with the new album Made In Sénégal, due out in October 2025. More than an album, it is a love letter to Senegal, its roots and its musical future. Always balancing between tradition and modernity, Baobab’s strings and winds make the rhythms of an entire nation resound.

“Their mix of styles is still one of absolute contagiousness and the polyphonic singing, beautiful guitar playing, full of African rhythms and dashes of Western pop, far too exciting.” – Written In Music
