In the Wunderkammer of the Small Gesture, you are surrounded by more than 3,000 postcards full of film stars, artworks, royal portraits, animals, tourist spots and nostalgic images. Visitors can choose, describe and post a card themselves – a simple, sincere way to share a moment of attention and connection. The cards, provided with a specially designed stamp, are actually sent via the Doelen Mailbox and reach their destination with the help of postmen from all corners of the country. The installation invites reflection and wonder, and at the same time offers a playful counterbalance to the transience of the digital age. This is not an exhibition to just look at, but also to actively participate in. A place where small gestures feel big and memories become tangible. Be surprised by images from times gone by, send a card to an old love, distant friend or new encounter – and feel what it means to stand still for a moment. Because sometimes a handwritten message is exactly what the world needs.
