Open Table: Impactful activism Theater Rotterdam

For a new place in Rotterdam where you can meet and break bread together? Then enter the world of Open Table, a program that takes you on a journey through culinary surprises with musical contributions from various artists. Where we make valuable connections and discuss complicated topics.

With Open Table we create a temporary, but memorable merger of different worlds. A safer space where we see and hear each other. Alida Dors, artistic director of Theater Rotterdam, says:

“TR is all about the meeting, about real connection. Based on the basic attitude I am because of you, we advocate the 'we' thinking. For the realization that all interactions with others make us human.”

The central theme of this first edition is activism and we mainly focus on local initiatives. Successful citizen initiatives arise in places where governments leave things behind, causing people to fall through the cracks and need help. This creates air and gives people a better life through a helping hand from a neighbor. A good example of this is the Feis Foundation, which succeeds in delivering parcels of food and relief supplies in Gaza, where large NGOs have been unsuccessful for a long time. How is that possible? How do these types of organizations work without help from the Dutch government?

We start the evening with a poetic column by poet and activist Jerry Afriye, Pris Roos is responsible for the artwork that accompanies this edition.

During this evening, chef Emmo Achthoven will cook for the guests and the public; a three-course menu of which the audience receives a sample box, so that you can taste it. DJ LoveSupreme makes a mixtape for each edition that focuses on the central theme of the evening.
